What happened

During a night departure from Entebbe Airport, an aircraft began an uncontrolled descent shortly after departing from runway 17. While in the climbing phase of flight, the plane lost stability and plummeted into Lake Victoria, approximately 10 km south of the airport. The impact caused the aircraft to disintegrate upon hitting the water.

There were 11 fatalities in the accident, with no survivors reported among the occupants. The mission involved transporting supplies, including water purification equipment and tents, to Mogadishu. The flight was operated under a charter for the US-based company Dynacorp on behalf of the African Union Mission In Somalia (AMISOM).

Findings

The aircraft was carrying several military personnel, including three Army Officers from Burundi and one Army Officer from Uganda. The crash occurred during the initial climb following takeoff.
