What happened
During a ferry flight from Kisangani to Myolaiv, Ukraine, a four-engine aircraft was performing a scheduled takeoff from runway 02. The flight plan included two intermediate stops in Entebbe and Luxor. As the aircraft began its takeoff roll, it failed to lift off and continued traveling down the runway until it reached the end of the pavement.
During the overrun, the aircraft drifted right of the runway centerline, traversing a service road and entering a sandy area. The aircraft subsequently entered a military zone situated approximately 500 meters beyond the runway threshold. During the excursion, the aircraft struck a building within the military unit, which led to the total destruction of the structure. The impact caused the right wing to strike a second building, triggering a fire and forcing the aircraft to veer further to the right.
The aircraft continued its path toward the military unit fence adjacent to the Tiba-Luxor road, striking an oil barrel along the way. The impact and subsequent fire resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. The accident resulted in the fatality of the crew, though no other injuries were reported.
Findings
