What happened
A humanitarian mission traveling from Cologne-Bonn Airport to Bakhtaran, Iran, ended in a crash during its approach to the destination. The flight was transporting supplies intended for Kurdish refugees on behalf of the Swiss entity Mexair.
While attempting to land at Bakhtaran, the crew encountered adverse weather conditions. This led to an initial go-around procedure. The flight crew subsequently attempted two more landings, both of which were also abandoned due to the environmental conditions.
During the fourth approach attempt, the captain notified Air Traffic Control that the aircraft was experiencing a fuel shortage. Following this declaration, the crew decided to perform an emergency landing. The aircraft ultimately crashed in an open field situated approximately 11 km from the airport. The accident resulted in four fatalities and left six individuals with serious injuries.
