What happened
On the morning of the incident, an aircraft departed from Irkutsk Airport at 10:19 local time. The flight was engaged in a specialized mission to combat fires within the Bayanday region. While the crew was maneuvering toward the designated area for treatment, the aircraft struck a group of trees and crashed into a forested zone. The impact was severe enough to cause the aircraft to burst into flames.
Following the crash, the wreckage remained undiscovered for two days. Upon recovery, it was confirmed that the aircraft was completely destroyed by the force of the impact and the subsequent fire. There were 10 fatalities among the crew members, with no survivors reported.
Findings
Investigation of the site indicated that the aircraft struck trees during its approach to the target area, leading to the destruction of the airframe and the loss of all personnel on board.
