Accident Details
On a firefighting mission, an aircraft departed Irkutsk Airport at 1019 local time, heading to the Bayanday region. As the crew approached the intended treatment area, the aircraft struck trees and crashed in a wooded location, immediately bursting into flames.
Damage and Recovery
The aircraft was destroyed by the impact forces and the subsequent post-crash fire. The wreckage was located two days after the accident.
Fatalities
All 10 crew members on board were killed. The crew included pilot L.S. Owl, copilot A. A. Lebedev, navigator G. L. Petrov, flight engineer V. N. Kuznetsov, radio operator I. E. Murahin, flight operators S. A. Makarov, S. A. Souslov, and M. M. Khadayev, and operators V. G. Jdanov and A. M. Mashnin.
