Accident Overview
On 17 June 2024, a BogdanFly X-wing paraglider landed on a tree at Sunset Peak, Lantau, Hong Kong. The pilot was still strapped in the paraglider and sustained injuries. He was unable to send his location to his companions. After being located by the search and rescue team, he was transported down the hill in an unconscious state and conveyed to North Lantau Hospital at around 0240 hours on 18 June 2024. He was later certified dead.
Investigation Status
The Air Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) is conducting an investigation in accordance with the Hong Kong Civil Aviation (Investigation of Accidents) Regulations (Cap. 448B) to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident. As of the date of this interim statement (16 June 2025), the investigation team is analysing all collected evidence and information and is drafting a report. In accordance with paragraph 6.6 of Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, if the report cannot be made publicly available within twelve months, an interim statement is made publicly available on each anniversary of the occurrence, detailing the progress of the investigation and any safety issues raised.
