What happened
On 2 September 2024, a Cathay Pacific Airways Limited Airbus A350-1041, registered as B-LXI, was involved in a serious incident shortly after departing from Hong Kong International Airport. The flight was scheduled to travel to Zurich Airport in Switzerland. During the course of the flight, a fire occurred within the propulsion system.
The investigation
The Air Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) is currently conducting an investigation to establish the circumstances and underlying causes of the fire. As of the latest interim statement, the investigation team is in the process of analyzing all collected evidence and information. The authorities are working toward drafting a final investigation report to determine how the propulsion system fire originated and developed.
