Incident Overview
On 8 June 2005, a Jabiru UL-450 (registration G-DJAY) was on a private flight from Popham to Wycombe Air Park, Buckinghamshire. The pilot, aged 76 and holding a Private Pilot's Licence with 609 total flying hours (78 on type), was the sole occupant. The aircraft was equipped with a single Jabiru Aircraft Pty 2200A piston engine and had been manufactured in 2001.
Sequence of Events
Upon arrival at Wycombe Air Park, the pilot prepared for a landing on Runway 24 Right. Weather conditions were described as good, with wind from 180 degrees at 2 knots. During the landing, the aircraft bounced. This event resulted in damage to the nose wheel rubber shock absorber and subsequent collapse of the nose wheel. Additionally, the tips of the propeller were damaged.
Injuries and Damage
The pilot, who was wearing a lap strap and diagonal harness, was uninjured and exited the aircraft normally. No passengers were on board. The nature of damage was limited to the propeller tips and nose wheel assembly.
