What happened
On February 5, 2025, at approximately 23:20 UTC, a Cirrus SR22, registration LV-KCB, was engaged in a non-commercial relocation flight. The aircraft was traveling from Rosario to an airfield in Bandera, Santiago del Estero. During the flight, the pilot decided to land at a prepared field located at Establecimiento La Martona.
Upon making contact with the ground, the aircraft's nose landing gear collapsed. This impact resulted in the immediate shutdown of the engine. The aircraft sustained substantial damage during the event, though there were no injuries reported among the four occupants on board.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) initiated an investigation into the abnormal runway contact. The preliminary inquiry focused on the circumstances surrounding the decision to land on a prepared field and the mechanical sequence that led to the gear failure. Investigators examined the aircraft's flight path, the condition of the landing surface, and the impact dynamics that caused the nose gear to collapse and the engine to cease operation.
