What happened
On December 11, 2025, a Tecnam P92 ECHO with registration LV-S137 departed from San Fernando International Airport in Buenos Aires Province for a local general aviation flight. During the landing phase on Runway 05, the aircraft encountered a puncture in the right main landing gear tire. This mechanical failure caused the airplane to come to a stop directly on the active runway.
The pilot immediately notified air traffic control of the situation. Following authorization from controllers, maintenance staff from the Aircraft Repair Shop (TAR 1B-344 S02) intervened to replace the damaged tire while the aircraft remained on the runway. Once the tire replacement was completed, the aircraft was towed to Hangar No. 2 for further checks before returning to service.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) conducted a desk investigation into the incident. The inquiry focused on the sequence of events during the landing phase and the subsequent handling of the mechanical issue. Records indicated that the flight was a non-scheduled, private operation with a duration of approximately 0.8 hours. The pilot held an Airline Transport Pilot license. Meteorological conditions were reported as Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) at the time of the event.
Findings
The primary factor in the incident was the puncture of the right main gear tire during landing, which resulted in the aircraft becoming immobilized on the runway. The investigation confirmed that no injuries occurred and that there were no other significant damages to the airframe beyond the tire issue. The response protocol involving maintenance personnel replacing the tire on the active runway was noted as part of the operational sequence.
