What happened
On May 3, 2023, at approximately 16:00 UTC, a Cessna 152, registration LV-CMN, was conducting a general aviation training flight departing from Morón Airport. While the aircraft was in the cruise phase of its flight, the engine began to lose power progressively until it eventually ceased operation entirely.
Following the loss of propulsion, the crew initiated an emergency procedure and performed an unplanned landing on Route 6, located in the General Rodríguez area of Buenos Aires. Despite the forced landing on the roadway, the aircraft sustained no damage.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the mechanical performance of the engine during the cruise phase and the sequence of events leading to the engine's shutdown. The flight was a standard training mission with a total flight duration of 45 minutes, operating under Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC).
Findings
- The primary cause of the incident was a progressive loss of engine power resulting in a complete engine stall.
- The crew successfully executed an emergency landing on a public roadway.
- There were no injuries reported among the two occupants on board.
