What happened
On June 7, 2023, at approximately 21:00 UTC, a ground collision occurred at Morón Aerodrome in the province of Buenos Aires. The incident involved a Beechcraft 23, registration LV-BPE, and a Tecnam P92 MKII, registration LV-S100.
While the pilot of the LV-BPE was starting the engine with the intention of taxiing to a different platform—not for takeoff—the aircraft began an unplanned movement. During this unexpected taxi, the pilot was unable to regain control or stop the aircraft before it struck the LV-S100, which was parked approximately 15 meters ahead. The stationary Tecnam P92 MKII was unoccupied at the time of the impact. There were no injuries reported following the collision.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the mechanical and operational circumstances leading to the uncontrolled movement of the Beechcraft 23. Investigators examined the engine settings and the sequence of events during the engine start-up phase at the aerodrome.
Findings
- The primary cause of the collision was that the throttle of the LV-BPE was set to maximum power during the engine start-up process.
- The pilot was unable to stop the aircraft once the unintended movement began.
- The LV-S100 was stationary and had no occupants on board at the time of the impact.
- Both aircraft sustained significant damage as a result of the collision.
