Flight History
On August 26, 2023, at approximately 16:45 local time, a pilot and a passenger arrived at Tököl Airfield (LHTL) for a planned leisure flight. The pilot obtained weather and operational information from the airfield's operations center. During taxiing, the pilot received information from "Tököl Radio" regarding wind direction and the recommended runway direction. Despite this advice, the pilot initiated the takeoff from runway 32, which was opposite to the recommended direction of runway 14.
During the initial climb, at an altitude of nearly 10 meters, the aircraft stalled. The nose gear then struck the ground, and the aircraft slid for approximately 75 meters before coming to rest on the right side of the runway. The aircraft sustained substantial damage, but there were no personal injuries.
Investigation Findings
The Transportation Safety Bureau (TSB) of Hungary conducted a safety investigation. The investigating committee (IC) determined that the accident was attributable to human factors. The direct cause was identified as the pilot increasing the aircraft's pitch angle after takeoff to a critical value, resulting in an aerodynamic stall. Additionally, the IC identified a contributing factor, though the report does not specify its nature.
The IC reviewed flight data from the aircraft's instruments, meteorological data, and witness statements. The aircraft, registration HA-NAD, is an Aero AT-3R100. No technical malfunctions were found. The investigation concluded that no safety recommendations were necessary, as compliance with existing regulations would prevent similar occurrences.
