What happened
On an afternoon flight originating from Manaus-Eduardo Gomes Airport, the crew was en route to São Paulo-Congonhas Airport. During the flight, the flight crew received notification regarding worsening weather conditions at their intended destination. Consequently, the aircraft was redirected to Campinas-Viracopos Airport.
While performing a night approach to the alternate airport, the aircraft type (not specified in source) struck trees within an eucalyptus plantation situated approximately 2 km from runway 14. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the plane. Search teams located the wreckage at 0700LT the following morning.
Findings
All seven fatalities occurred during the accident, which included both the crew and five passengers. The investigation into the sequence of events indicates that the crew failed to maintain a safe altitude during the final approach phase.
