Accident Details
After an uneventful flight from Goiânia, the crew initiated the descent to Belém-Val de Cans Airport for runway 06, following a heading of 243°. The crew reported their position as 6 nautical miles from the airport at an altitude of 2,000 feet. Eleven seconds later, the aircraft went out of control and crashed in a wooded area on Oncas Island, located a few kilometers short of the runway 06 threshold. The impact totally destroyed the aircraft, and all four occupants were killed.
Probable Cause
The official investigation determined that the loss of control likely resulted from windshear present in the approach path of runway 06. Several contributing factors were identified: insufficient training and experience of the crew to manage a windshear situation, preventing them from taking appropriate corrective actions; poor crew coordination; low captain experience on this aircraft type; poor supervision; and a lack of safety culture by the operator.
