What happened
A medical transport flight traveling from São Paulo-Congonhas Airport to Diamantina-Juslocino Kubitschek Airport resulted in an aircraft accident during the landing phase. The flight was operating as an ambulance service, transporting two medical doctors and two pilots.
During the arrival at the destination, the aircraft performed an unstabilized approach. As a result of this approach, the plane touched down at a point too far down runway 03, leaving insufficient pavement to decelerate. The aircraft was unable to stop within the remaining runway length and subsequently overran the end of the strip. The movement continued into a nearby ravine, where the aircraft eventually came to a halt.
Findings
- The aircraft sustained damage that was classified as beyond repair.
- All four occupants successfully evacuated the wreckage.
- The crew and passengers sustained only minor injuries during the event.
- The primary factor in the accident was the unstable approach which led to a long touchdown on the runway.
