What happened
During an approach to San Cristóbal Airport, a twin engine aircraft encountered challenging meteorological conditions characterized by low cloud cover and restricted visibility. As the crew attempted to descend through these marginal weather conditions, the aircraft collided with the terrain on the slope of Mt La Gama, situated within the Chorro del Indio National Park.
The impact with the mountainside was severe, resulting in the total destruction of the airframe. The accident resulted in four fatalities among the passengers. Additionally, six people sustained serious injuries during the crash event.
Findings
- The flight was operating in marginal weather conditions with limited visibility caused by low-altitude clouds.
