A twin-engine aircraft suffered dual engine failures while en route from Croydon to Basel, resulting in an emergency landing in a wheat field where the airframe was destroyed by fire.

What happened

During a scheduled flight from Croydon to Basel, the crew encountered simultaneous technical issues affecting both engines while cruising at 10,000 feet over French territory. Following the onset of these problems, the pilot reduced altitude to manage the situation. Shortly thereafter, one engine ignited, prompting the captain to initiate an emergency procedure. The aircraft was directed toward Luxeuil-les-Bains Air Base for a potential landing.

As the crew approached the final approach phase, they extended the landing gear but ultimately diverted to a nearby wheat field in Saint-Sauveur, located northeast of the airbase. Upon touchdown on the unprepared surface, the undercarriage collapsed. The aircraft slid for several dozen meters before coming to a complete stop and subsequently catching fire. All 12 occupants successfully evacuated the burning wreckage without injury, although the airplane was destroyed by the flames.
