Incident
Minutes after departing Jacksonville Air Force Base (AFB), a Hercules transport aircraft collided with a USAF Jet Trainer Cessna T-37 Tweet. The T-37 was on approach to Jacksonville AFB after a flight from Big Spring-Webb Airbase. Following the collision, both aircraft went out of control and crashed in a field approximately three miles from the airfield.
Casualties
The two pilots aboard the T-37 ejected from their aircraft and survived. In contrast, all five crew members aboard the Hercules were killed. The Hercules had just taken off from Jacksonville AFB at the time of the collision.
Aftermath
The wreckage of both aircraft came to rest in the field near the base. No details regarding the cause of the collision have been released, and the incident remains under investigation.
