What happened
During a humanitarian flight destined for Bagram Air Force Base, a four-engine aircraft experienced a runway excursion. The incident occurred as the aircraft was attempting to land amidst challenging meteorological conditions. Due to the presence of poor weather, the flight crew was unable to decelerate the aircraft sufficiently to remain within the available runway length.
As a result of the overrun, the aircraft's undercarriage was lost, and the plane eventually came to a halt after exiting the paved surface. Following the excursion, the aircraft caught fire. While the airframe was completely destroyed by the subsequent flames, there were zero injuries reported among the crew members on board.
Findings
- The primary factor contributing to the accident was the inability to stop within the remaining runway distance during landing.
- Adverse weather conditions at the time of arrival played a significant role in the sequence of events.
