What happened
During the departure phase from Juba Airport, an aircraft was climbing through 300 feet at a speed of 155 knots when the number four engine experienced a loss of power. In an attempt to manage the situation, the crew decided to perform an emergency return to the airfield. During this process, the number one and number two engines experienced overspeed conditions.
As the aircraft was maneuvering to align with runway 31, the number three engine also lost power, resulting in the propeller being feathered. Although the crew successfully completed the landing, the aircraft could not decelerate sufficiently before the end of the runway. The plane veered off the paved surface and struck several containers, which subsequently caused the aircraft to catch fire. There were no injuries among the five occupants on board.
Findings
- The aircraft suffered a succession of engine malfunctions, including power loss in engines four and three, as well as overspeeding in engines one and two.
