Incident
At Adak Airport, during the takeoff roll, the pilot-in-command pulled the control column and initiated rotation. Shortly after, the copilot reported a technical problem: the smoke hatch had blown open. The crew decided to abort the takeoff and began an emergency braking maneuver.
Sequence of Events
Within seconds of aborting, the airplane veered off the runway to the left and struck an obstacle. The impact tore off the right wing. The aircraft continued down an embankment and came to rest in flames.
Aftermath
All eight crew members on board escaped and were treated for minor injuries. The aircraft was destroyed in the event.
