What happened
On September 17, 2016, at approximately 20:57, local emergency services in the Staromayna district of the Ulyanovsk region received a report from a witness regarding an aircraft located on a bend in the road near the village of Tatarskoe Uraykino. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers located an Antonov An-2, registration RA-84566, positioned on the highway between Staraya Maina, Krasnaya Reka, and Bryandino.
Prior to this incident, the aircraft, owned by Aviapartner LLC, had been performing agricultural chemical spraying services for Petrovskoe LLC. The aircraft arrived at the fields on September 5, 2016, to execute a contract for the treatment of agricultural lands. On September 15, 2016, the pilot notified the client's director that the contracted work had been completed and indicated an intention to depart for other urgent tasks.
When the aircraft was discovered by authorities, the crew was not present on the plane. Furthermore, the entrance door of the aircraft had been secured with a padlock.
