On June 14, 2024, a training flight was conducted at the Ulyanovsk (Barata/taevka) airfield as part of a commercial pilot training program for fourth-year students of the Ulyanovsk Institute of Civil Aviation. The flight was authorized under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) following coordination with the Samara Regional Center of Air Traffic Management.
The student pilot-in-command (PIC) completed necessary medical examinations and pre-flight inspections prior to the scheduled flight operations. The student had previously been assessed by the airfield's deputy commander and received a grade of "good" regarding their knowledge of flight procedures. All flights for the session, including the flight involving the DA 40 NG with registration RA-02642, were operated by the student PIC.
Following the successful completion of control flights and with the permission of an instructor, the student PIC commenced an independent flight. At 06:21:10, the aircraft began its takeoff run on runway 20. The pilot increased engine power at 06:21:44, and the takeoff run proceeded at 06:21:47.
The aircraft was performing a circuit flight at an altitude of approximately 1450 feet (442 meters) according to the established flight path scheme. There were no injuries or fatalities reported in relation to this event.
