On May 28, 2024, an Mi-8T helicopter operated by LLC "Airline 'MURMANAVI'" was conducting a planned cargo flight through the Murmansk region. The flight route included stops at the settlements of Murmanshi, Lovozero, Pacha, and Acha, before returning to Murmanshi. The crew had obtained permission for Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) in airspace classes C and G prior to departure.
During the flight, the aircraft encountered icing conditions. The engines of the RA-24653 experienced simultaneous failures after ingesting ice and water. This led to a forced landing of the helicopter. No injuries or fatalities were reported following the event.
Pre-flight preparations included weather monitoring via internet-based meteorological services, which had not forecasted hazardous weather along the route. While no medical examination was conducted at the departure point due to the lack of a medical professional at the settlement, the captain authorized the crew to fly in accordance with applicable regulations.
