On February 28, 2023, a Mi-8T helicopter, registration RA-25227, was performing a scheduled flight service between the settlements of Lovozero and Krasnoschelie. The mission involved the transport of passengers, baggage, cargo, and mail as part of a contract with the Lovozersky district administration.
During the approach to landing, the aircraft encountered weather conditions characterized by snowfall and reduced visibility. The terrain below was snow-covered and non-contrasting, making it difficult to distinguish ground features. During this phase of flight, the crew lost control of the aircraft's altitude, resulting in a collision with the ground during a controlled flight.
The crew had arrived at the Lovozero base at 09:00 on the day of the accident. Following pre-flight preparations, the captain had authorized the flight. The flight plan involved the captain piloting the legs departing from Lovozero, while the second pilot was designated to pilot the legs departing from Krasnoschelie.
There were no fatalities or injuries reported in relation to this incident.
