What happened

On a scheduled courier flight from Terrace Airport to Vancouver, British Columbia, a Mitsubishi MU-2B-36 operated by Nav Air Charter Inc. experienced a critical mechanical failure. Shortly after departing from Runway 15 at 18:34 Pacific standard time, the aircraft's left engine suffered a loss of power.

Following the engine failure, the aircraft began a descent while maintaining a slight bank to the left. The plane struck trees approximately 1,600 feet east of the runway's departure end while traveling on a magnetic heading of 072°. The impact and a subsequent fire resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft, registration C-FTWO. There were two fatalities among the flight crew.
