What happened
During a climb following departure from Charallave-Óscar Machado Zuloaga Airport, a Marquise aircraft entered into a collision with another plane. The second aircraft, a Piper PA-31T Cheyenne II with registration YV-215CP, was arriving at the same airport after completing a flight originating from Barquisimeto.
The impact occurred while both planes were in the climbing and descending phases of flight near the airfield. Following the mid-air contact, both the Marquise and the Piper PA-31T Cheyenne II descended rapidly toward the terrain, crashing a short distance from the airport perimeter. There were five occupants on board the Piper aircraft. The accident resulted in 10 fatalities, as every person on both aircraft was killed in the crash.
