What happened
During a nighttime paratrooper training operation, an aircraft departed from Djibouti City to conduct its mission. While navigating the region northwest of Assal Lake, the aircraft type collided with the slope of Mt Garbi, which has an elevation of 1,700 meters. The impact caused the total destruction of the airframe.
There were 36 fatalities in the accident, representing the entire occupancy of the plane. The passengers and crew included a variety of military personnel, specifically seven officers, five non-commissioned officers, one Navy officer, and 23 legionaries and corporals. The flight crew consisted of four members.
