The investigation
The Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has been conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. As part of the process outlined in ICAO Annex 13, a draft final report was circulated to stakeholders for a 60-day review period to gather comments and suggestions.
This fourth interim statement was published on June 3, 2016, marking the fourth anniversary of the tragedy. The bureau noted that issues raised by stakeholders requiring further scientific testing have almost entirely been addressed. The final report is expected to be made public shortly.
Findings
As the investigation is still in its concluding phases with the final report pending publication, specific contributing factors and definitive findings are not yet included in this interim statement. The bureau continues to address stakeholder feedback to ensure a comprehensive scientific analysis before releasing the complete account of the event.
