Overview
On 14 September 2022, Air India Express flight AXB442, a Boeing 737-800NG (registration VT-AXZ), experienced a serious incident involving a fire from the right engine (engine number 2) at Muscat International Airport, Oman.
Sequence of Events
After landing on Runway 08L, the flight crew reported technical issues to Air Traffic Control and requested to vacate the runway. While the aircraft was on the apron, personnel from another aircraft observed fire emanating from the right engine. The air traffic controller confirmed the fire to the crew. The crew then executed the Quick Reference Handbook (QRH) procedures and subsequently carried out an evacuation.
Investigation
The Oman Transport Safety Bureau (OTSB) received notification of the serious incident from Oman Airports via its hotline. The investigation was conducted by OTSB in accordance with national and international standards. The incident was classified as a serious incident.
