What happened
During a repositioning flight traveling from Victoria toward Castlegar-West Kootenay Airport, a twin engine airplane crashed in a forested region. As the aircraft was performing its final approach to the airfield, it made contact with trees located on Mt Sentinel, several kilometers away from the destination airport.
The impact occurred in a heavily wooded area, resulting in the total destruction of the airframe. There was only one person on board at the time of the accident; the pilot sustained fatal injuries during the crash.
Findings
No official investigation results regarding specific mechanical failures or weather conditions were provided in the initial report, though the sequence of events indicates the aircraft struck obstacles while in the final approach phase of flight.
