A twin-engine aircraft operated by Club Aéreo del Personal de Carabineros crashed into a mountainside during its initial climb from Coyhaique-Teniente Vidal Airport.

What happened

During the early stages of flight following departure from Coyhaique-Teniente Vidal Airport, a twin engine aircraft impacted the terrain. While performing a climb, the plane struck the side of Mt Fraile, which is situated approximately 8 km southeast of the departure airfield.

The accident resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. There were seven fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft, with no survivors reported from the crew or passengers.

Findings

  • The aircraft involved carried the registrations CC-KKC and C-16.
  • The operator of the flight was the Club Aéreo del Personal de Carabineros (CAPC).
  • The impact occurred during the climbing phase of flight.

Probable cause

The aircraft struck a mountain slope during its ascent shortly after departing the airport.
