An aircraft crashed into a marshy area short of runway 26 at Navegantes-Itajaí Airport while on final approach after declaring an emergency. Both occupants sustained injuries, and the airframe was destroyed.

What happened

Shortly after departing Port Belo Airport with Curitiba-Bacacheri Airport as the intended destination, the flight crew reported a technical issue to air traffic control. Following this declaration of an emergency, the operators were granted clearance to divert to Navegantes-Itajaí Airport.

While executing the final approach for landing on runway 26, the aircraft failed to reach the paved surface. It impacted a marshy terrain located approximately 500 metres before the threshold of the runway. The collision resulted in significant structural damage to the airframe, rendering it beyond repair. Both individuals on board sustained injuries during the impact.
