What happened
On a flight departing Dzhazator at 15:12 local time, a single-engine aircraft was en route to Kosh-Agach with a total of eight occupants, including two pilots, a local guide, and five passengers. During the initial departure phase, the aircraft encountered adverse weather characterized by rain and a low cloud ceiling. Due to visibility levels falling below required minimums, the crew inadvertently deviated from the intended flight path. The aircraft entered the Ak-Alakha canyon before moving into the Chad valley.
While navigating through whiteout conditions, the crew encountered a mountain and attempted a right-hand turn to avoid the terrain. During this maneuver, the aircraft collided with trees and crashed in a forested region. The wreckage was located approximately 23 km south of Dzhazator. There was no post-crash fire reported at the site. The accident resulted in three fatalities, including both pilots and one passenger, while the remaining five occupants sustained serious injuries.
Findings
Investigation into the accident indicates that the crew followed an incorrect course following departure due to insufficient visibility. The combination of poor weather, including low ceilings and rain, contributed to the navigational error that led the aircraft into canyon terrain.
