6 fatalities • Tagarkhay, Russia • Flight

The wreckage of a single-engine aircraft was found in a remote mountainous region over a year after it vanished during a reconnaissance flight.

What happened

In the afternoon, a single-engine aircraft departed from Kyren Airport carrying two pilots and four company employees. The mission involved a local reconnaissance flight to survey the area intended for a new chemical facility dedicated to silkworm processing. Following the flight's failure to return to the airport that evening, search and rescue teams launched operations to locate the missing plane. However, these efforts were terminated several days later when no evidence of the aircraft could be located.

On July 24, 2021, more than a year after the disappearance, travelers located the remains of the aircraft near the Baikonur Pass. The wreckage was situated in a rugged, rocky landscape at an elevation of 2,780 meters. The impact resulted in a post-crash fire that consumed the airframe. All six fatalities were confirmed among the occupants of the aircraft.

Findings

Investigation of the site revealed that the post-crash fire was responsible for the destruction of the aircraft's structure.
