What happened
A cargo flight departing from Us-Khatyn for Vertikal'nyy ended in an accident during its transit. The aircraft, a single-engine airplane, was carrying a crew of two pilots and one passenger at the time of the incident. During the flight, the area experienced worsening weather, specifically characterized by a significant reduction in visibility caused by fog.
While navigating the route, the aircraft struck treetops and came to rest on a slope within a forested region. The crash site was located approximately 46 km southeast of the village of Sebyan-Kyuyol. Because the flight failed to reach its destination after its scheduled 2-hour and 30-minute duration, search and rescue operations were launched.
The wreckage was not located until July 1st, ten days after the disappearance. Upon discovery, it was confirmed that both pilots had perished in the accident. However, the one passenger survived the impact and managed to stay alive by seeking shelter in a nearby fishing house, where he was able to find sustenance until he was found.
Findings
- The accident occurred during the en route phase of flight.
- Reduced visibility due to fog was a primary environmental factor during the flight.
