What happened

A special cargo flight operated on behalf of Yakutsgeofizik departed from Taymylyr at 12:47 local time. The single engine airplane was transporting 192 kilograms of various goods along with two crew members and seven passengers. During the mission, the aircraft maintained a flight altitude of approximately 350 meters.

As the crew began their descent toward Tiksi Airport, they encountered haze that significantly reduced visibility. While flying roughly 20 km north of the destination near the mouth of the Lena River, the aircraft type struck a hill measuring 410 meters in height. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. Despite the severity of the crash, all nine occupants were successfully rescued from the site.
