Engine failure during crop spraying mission in Krasnodar region

No fatalities • Prototskiye, Russia • Takeoff (climb)

An aircraft engaged in agricultural operations lost engine power shortly after takeoff, resulting in an overturned fuselage and a post-crash fire in Russia.

What happened

During an agricultural mission involving crop spraying over a rice paddy field in the Krasnoarmeisk district of the Krasnodar region, an aircraft experienced a critical mechanical failure. Approximately two minutes after departing from the airfield in Prototskiye, the aircraft's engine ceased to function while the crew was maintaining an altitude of roughly 50 metres.

In response to the loss of power, the captain initiated an emergency landing procedure. During this maneuver, the aircraft nosed over and came to a halt in an inverted position approximately 2 km east of Prototskiye. Following the impact, a fire broke out, consuming the portions of the fuselage that remained above the water level of the paddy field.
