What happened
During a mission to monitor for potential forest fires, an aircraft was operating with a total of five people on board, including three crew members and two observers. While attempting to land on a remote airstrip located in the Nerpo area, the aircraft was impacted by powerful winds. These weather conditions prevented the aircraft from coming to a complete stop within the runway limits, leading to a collision with nearby trees.
Following the impact, the aircraft came to a halt in the vegetation. Although the aircraft was determined to be a total loss due to damage beyond repair, there were zero fatalities and zero injuries reported among the occupants. All five individuals on board were able to exit the wreckage safely.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was the presence of strong winds during the landing phase.
- The environmental conditions at the remote landing site contributed to the inability to stop the aircraft before hitting the tree line.
