What happened
Following a period of maintenance involving an engine overhaul, a single-engine aircraft departed from Managua-Augusto Cesar Sandino Airport to perform a routine post-maintenance check flight. The aircraft was carrying a total of five people, consisting of the pilot and four engineers.
During the final approach phase of the flight, the aircraft's engine ceased functioning. In response to the loss of power, the pilot attempted to execute an emergency landing. The aircraft subsequently struck an open field and came to a halt in an inverted position, approximately 800 metres before reaching the runway threshold.
Findings
- All five occupants of the aircraft managed to exit the wreckage.
- The occupants sustained only minor injuries during the impact.
- The engine failure was the primary event leading to the crash.
