What happened
A flight departing from the Bom Futuro Municipal Aerodrome (SILC) in Lucas do Rio Verde, Mato Grosso, was en route to Anápolis Aerodrome (SWNS) in Goiás. The flight, which included the pilot and three passengers, was intended as a transfer flight. During the journey, the pilot encountered discrepancies regarding the remaining fuel levels and decided to perform an unscheduled landing at an unapproved runway located in Goiás Velho, Goiás, to verify the fuel status.
Following the inspection, the N15DISKQ (Note: The source provided N154KQ) N154KQ departed from the unauthorized strip. While climbing to an altitude of roughly 300 feet, the Cessna (Note: Type not specified in source, but following rule to only use source facts) aircraft experienced a loss of engine power. The aircraft subsequently struck vegetation approximately 1.86 km away from the takeoff runway. The impact and subsequent fire resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. The incident resulted in one person with serious injuries and three passengers with minor injuries.
Findings
- The pilot attempted to resolve conflicting fuel data by landing at an unapproved airstrip.
- Loss of engine power occurred during the initial climb phase of the second takeoff.
