What happened
During a humanitarian mission traveling from Guatemala City to Cobán, an aircraft entered an uncontrolled descent shortly after departing from runway 02 at Guatemala City-La Aurora. The flight was transporting a cargo of essential supplies and food, accompanied by one pilot and one passenger.
As the plane was in its initial climb phase, it struck high-tension power lines and trees. The subsequent impact occurred at 4th Avenue within the Zone 9 district, roughly 980 meters from the runway threshold. The force of the collision and a fire that ignited following the crash resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were two fatalities among the crew and passengers.
Findings
Investigations indicate that the aircraft's descent became uncontrolled following takeoff. The sequence of events led the plane to strike high-tension wires and vegetation before hitting the ground in a populated urban area.
