What happened
A ferry flight traveling from Southend toward Canada, with a planned stop in Greenland, ended in a fatal accident in the Atlantic Ocean. The aircraft was operated by a single pilot who was the only person on board at the time of the incident.
During the flight, the pilot contacted air traffic control to report that the aircraft was encountering severe icing conditions. Shortly after this communication, the plane began an uncontrolled descent. The aircraft eventually impacted the ocean surface approximately 167 km southeast of the Greenland coastline. There were no survivors, as the pilot was killed in the crash.
Findings
The investigation into the accident highlights that the aircraft encountered severe icing conditions prior to the loss of control and subsequent impact with the water.
