What happened
During the takeoff roll from runway 09 at Craiova Airport, the aircraft experienced a loss of directional control. The flight was operating in conditions of low visibility, with fog and freezing temperatures reducing sight to approximately 500 metres. During the acceleration phase, the aircraft drifted toward the right side of the runway.
As the aircraft deviated from the centerline, the right engine made contact with a snow berm that stood one metre in height. The impact caused the right propeller to be detached from the engine. Following the strike, the aircraft continued to roll for several metres before eventually coming to a stop in the snow.
Findings
- All 55 occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury.
- The aircraft type sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
- The primary factor in the excursion was the impact with a snow berm during the takeoff roll.
