What happened
During an approach to Tijuana-General Abelardo L. Rodríguez Airport, the crew of the aircraft experienced a simultaneous loss of power in both engines. The incident occurred while the plane was descending under favorable weather conditions. After notifying air traffic control of the dual engine failure, the captain initiated an emergency procedure to land the plane in an open area within the Las Palmas Valley, situated approximately 24 km from the destination airport.
Upon contact with the ground, the aircraft slid on its belly for several dozen meters before coming to a complete stop. Despite the impact, all 32 occupants successfully evacuated the aircraft without sustaining any injuries. The aircraft itself sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The primary factor in the emergency landing was the failure of both engines during the descent phase of flight.
