What happened
On 26 May 2001, a Piper PA28-235, registered ZS-JGT, was conducting a private flight from Wonderboom Airport toward a private aerodrome located on the "Ongerep" farm near Ellisras. The flight was carrying a pilot and three passengers.
As the aircraft approached the farm aerodrome for landing, it drifted to the left of the runway centerline. During the landing roll, the left wing of the aircraft struck low-lying bushes situated adjacent to the runway. This contact caused the pilot to lose directional control, resulting in the aircraft veering off the prepared surface.
The investigation
SACAA AIID investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the landing at the farm aerodrome (S 23°15.753' E027°52.683'). The investigation reviewed the flight path, the meteorological conditions, which were reported as fine, and the aircraft's contact with the surrounding vegetation. The investigation confirmed that there were no fatalities and no injuries among the four occupants on board.
