What happened
During a flight traveling from Ba'kelalan toward Marudi, the aircraft encountered severe weather characterized by heavy rainfall and significantly reduced visibility. As the flight progressed, the crew lost spatial orientation due to the deteriorating environmental conditions. Simultaneously, the aircraft began to run low on fuel, eventually reaching a state of fuel exhaustion.
In an attempt to manage the emergency, the crew sought an unplanned landing in an open field. During the descent and landing sequence, the aircraft type (unspecified) struck a rock, resulting in a crash. The accident resulted in one fatality and left 16 survivors among the occupants.
Findings
- The primary contributing factor was fuel exhaustion occurring during the flight.
- Heavy rain and poor visibility contributed to the crew losing orientation.
