What happened
During an approach to Manado-Sam Ratulangi Airport, the flight crew encountered weather conditions that were considered marginal. While navigating the descent, the aircraft collided with the slope of Mt Takawirang, which is situated a short distance from the airfield. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were no survivors among the 13 fatalities recorded during the accident.
Findings
Investigations into the crash indicate that the crew did not maintain an adequate altitude during the approach phase. The primary factor contributing to the collision was the failure to recognize insufficient altitude while operating in poor visibility or marginal weather conditions.
