Aircraft accident at Zell am See Airport

No fatalities • Zell am See, Austria • Takeoff (climb)

An aircraft experienced an unstable takeoff roll and subsequent stall, resulting in a crash in a field near Zell am See Airport.

What happened

During the takeoff phase from runway 25 at Zell am See Airport, the aircraft experienced an unstable departure. The flight began to oscillate, rolling rhythmically to the left and right. During this sequence, the aircraft developed a significant right bank, reaching an angle of 40 degrees. This maneuver led to an aerodynamic stall, causing the aircraft to descend into an open field located in the vicinity of the airport.

Upon impact with the ground, the aircraft sustained catastrophic structural damage. The force of the crash resulted in the separation of both wings and the undercarriage, rendering the airframe a total loss. Despite the severity of the impact, all 21 occupants were successfully rescued from the wreckage. Among the survivors, eight individuals sustained injuries during the event.

Findings

  • The aircraft entered a stall following an excessive banking angle during the takeoff roll.

Probable cause

The aircraft entered a stall following an uncontrolled banking maneuver during takeoff.
