Introduction
On 6 September 2022 at 18:36 UTC, a Rans S7 Courier aircraft (without a registration mark) operated by a private individual was conducting a test flight to verify its technical condition. The flight departed from a modified meadow in the cadastral area of Petrovice, Slovakia, under visual flight rules without a flight plan.
Accident Sequence
After takeoff, while climbing to an altitude of approximately 300 feet above ground level, the pilot perceived a sudden loss of engine power. He initiated a left turn intending to return to the departure meadow. During the turn, the aircraft lost altitude and entered a secondary flight regime due to insufficient speed. The aircraft subsequently struck the roof of an agricultural building, broke through, and came to rest inside the building. Fuel from ruptured wing tanks ignited, resulting in a massive fire that completely destroyed the aircraft. The pilot and the passenger evacuated the aircraft without external assistance.
Injuries and Damage
The pilot sustained serious injuries requiring hospitalization; the passenger received minor injuries and was released after treatment. The aircraft was consumed by fire. The building's roof and interior were damaged by the impact and subsequent fire.

The aircraft was a Rans S-7 Courier, a light single-engine, two-seat high-wing monoplane with fixed tailwheel landing gear. It was powered by a Rotax 912 S2 engine. The investigation revealed that the aircraft had not been issued a certificate of registration by the Slovak Transport Authority, nor was it registered with any authorized organization in Slovakia. No certificate of airworthiness was found. The operator failed to provide maintenance logs or flight records. The pilot held a Private Pilot License with a Single Engine Piston Land rating valid until August 2023 and a Class 2 medical certificate. He estimated his total flight experience at about 650 hours but did not maintain a logbook.
Investigation and Probable Cause
The investigation was unable to determine the precise reason for the loss of engine power because the operator did not provide the required documentation, including maintenance records. The official report states: "The cause of the occurrence could not be determined due to missing documentation." No other causal factors were identified.
